Philosophy of Dance 01 - Universal Language of Dance Connection

Philosophy if dance. OK I'm entering my 27th year as a full time dance teacher. Was reflecting on my values and my philosophy over the weekend.

Universal Language of Dance Connection. Learning the nuances and language of dance connection is as studied and intricate as learning a verbal language. When we are new to dance we have no idea of the length of that journey or its amazing outcomes. However, unlike verbal language dance language is truly universal.

Furthermore, it has always been my quest to truly understand the universality of that language. I do NOT subscribe to the idea that different dances have different languages or techniques. Of course the movements within the dance give it character and flavours that are different, but the language with which we communicate with each other is universal.

Over the 27 years I've heard many dogmatic arguments from aficionados of different styles of dance whether it be Tango, Salsa, Bachata, Zouk, Kizomba and others, argue that their styles way of connecting is unique or "special" or that they somehow are closer to the dance gods and understand better than others, only to find out over time that their techniques are no different or in fact improved upon to eventually converge with other styles.

Don't live in the Dogma, and open your mind to the possibility that other people have been on the journey for far longer, and are also in pursuit of the truth.

The philosophy of JRDA is that whether you love Kiz, Tango, Zouk, Bachata, Swing or Salsa, we teach "By a common language" in pursuit of a common language of connection.
