Okay, so word of mouth is usually the best way to find a good contractor, I know. But what's the best way to find one in Nanaimo *besides* that? I am new to the area, so really don't know anyone locally to ask around. Trying to avoid getting ripped off and would like to get a reliable person for some upcoming interior work. Any suggestions for online resources, or other ways to vet contractors without personal recommendations?

Landing a good contractor without any local connections is difficult, I agree! I think utilizing various online tools can be pretty effective. First, make sure they're properly licensed and insured, that's a must. After that, I usually check online business directories which often have reviews or ratings like you might find for other types of services.. Something like browsing Roofing Contractors in Duncan, BC is quite useful for finding names and basic info. Beyond that, I'd try to get references from the contractors themselves, and actually call those references. Good luck!
