Samba de Gafieira

Samba de Gafieira is a partner dance completely different from International Ballroom Samba.

It appeared in the 1940s and the name is derived from the Gafieira – popular urban nightclubs of Rio de Janeiro at that time. It is the partner version of the world-renowned Brazilian dance, SAMBA. Through its unique combination of dance genres (in particular Samba, Tango & Swing) Samba de Gafieira establishes its own identity, allowing the dancer to express both grace and playfulness with intimacy and strength.

Check out this video of Instructors Alisson and Amanda performing a Gafiera routine at the 2007 JRDA Annual Ball.
